Draymond Green On Andrew Wiggins’ Defense: ‘Can Be All-Defense, Reminds Me A Lot Of Kevin Durant’

2 Min Read

Draymond Green has the highest hopes on Andrew Wiggins, especially knowing the big season that’s coming for the Golden State Warriors. The Dubs come from a horrible 2019/20 campaign that saw them win only 15 games, boasting the worst record in the league last season. They missed their biggest figures, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, but next season the Splash Brothers are back, ready to take their team to the top once again.

They have Andrew Wiggins, who landed from Minnesota in the trade that sent their failed experiment D’Angelo Russell to Minneapolis. Now Wiggins is expected to have better performances than he had with the T-Wolves, especially on the defensive end. Draymond Green, one of the best defenders in the league, had high praise for him during this season, even comparing the young player to Kevin Durant, one of the best players on earth when healthy.

“I think he can be an All-Defensive player. That’s one of my goals for him. As a leader of this team, one of my things that I really want to push him on. He has all the tools he has the athleticism — reminds me a lot of Kevin [Durant] as a defender where they’re both long and lanky, but agile and can move — very skinny guys, but not weak. From that aspect, he reminds me a lot of Kevin — Kevin is a great defender,” Green said last February.

Wiggins is not going to become Kevin Durant or anything, but he has the tools to be an important player in the Bay and help this team reach important stages once again. The Warriors need to prove they can win without KD and this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Of course, they’re counting on Wiggins to make a big impact on both ends of the floor.
