Dwight Howard Might Leave Lakers For Warriors In Free Agency

2 Min Read

Dwight Howard has had a resurgence in Los Angeles. In what many considered to be his last chance, he came to L.A. with low expectations.

In the months since his arrival, though, he has impressed mightily. With a humbled personality and an admirable drive to win, he averaged 7.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game on 73% shooting before the hiatus began in March.

He has been a much-needed force on the inside but, according to a new report by Tony Pesta of Fansided’s Blue Man Hoop, he could be headed to San Francisco when his contract expires at the end of this season.

“Howard appears to be in great shape and is making the most of every minute he plays. It’s easy to see how his prowess as a glass cleaner and finisher around the rim could make him a valued member of the Warriors. At 34 years of age, there is almost no chance Howard is offered much more than $6 million from any team this offseason. While returning to the Lakers is a possibility, there is something interesting about the idea of Howard playing with the most spacing he has ever had before in Golden State.”

The Warriors are a famously easy place for big men to thrive. Because of the dominant shooting of Steph and Klay, it often leaves bigs a lot of room to operate on the inside. A guy like Dwight would be awesome in grabbing rebounds off the glass and protecting the rim on the other end of the floor.

Unfortunately, his loss would be huge for L.A. He has been a spark for the team and is a big reason why they have been so good on the defensive end of the floor.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops with Howard. His destination next season could have an impact on the Western Conference standings.
