The Miami Heat have surprisingly managed to get to the NBA Finals this season, beating more talented teams such as the Boston Celtics in the process. Their discipline and defense were elite throughout the playoffs, and that is a product of the team’s culture.

Erik Spoelstra’s coaching has been elite throughout the playoffs, but so has his players’ execution. The coach noted that the team is “hard-wired to compete”, and compared them to Navy SEAL operatives.

“Our guys are hard-wired to compete. We’ve said this in each series… We feel like we’re Navy SEALs. Just drop us off in parachutes, let’s get ready to go compete. We’re playing against a great opponent that we have deep respect for. But it’s competition. We feel like they’re in our way.”

It is true that the Miami Heat have been consistently competitive under Erik Spoelstra’s time with them. Though they will be underdogs in every game of the Finals, they are a team that will make things tough on the Denver Nuggets on every possession.

Aaron Gordon Made An Extremely Accurate Statement About The Miami Heat

Previously, we saw Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon make an extremely accurate assessment of the Miami Heat. He noted that the team “fight” and “scrap”, and refuses to quit no matter the situation.

“We got the utmost respect for them,” Gordon said. “They fight and they scrap, they have no quit in them. They play through 48 minutes a game and more if necessary. They play fearless. They play disciplined. They’re well-coached and have some guys that have been there before and have some guys that have chips on their shoulder. So, we’re not looking at the seeding or the story around it. This is a very talented basketball team, professional basketball team and all those guys over there got game, so we respect it.”

Though talent ultimately wins championships, fighting, discipline, and mentality can take a team a long way. We will see whether the Heat can make things interesting in the Finals, despite them missing key players and being outmatched talent-wise.
