The Denver Nuggets had a whole lot of doubters entering these playoffs and they have silenced a lot of them in some style by getting to the NBA Finals.
They made light work of the Western Conference, sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers in the Conference Finals to get here. Standing between them and a first NBA title is the Miami Heat and Aaron Gordon, who has averaged 13.0 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 2.5 APG in these playoffs for the Nuggets, says they have a lot of respect for them.
“We got the utmost respect for them,” Gordon said. “They fight and they scrap, they have no quit in them. They play through 48 minutes a game and more if necessary. They play fearless. They play disciplined. They’re well-coached and have some guys that have been there before and have some guys that have chips on their shoulder. So, we’re not looking at the seeding or the story around it. This is a very talented basketball team, professional basketball team and all those guys over there got game, so we respect it.”
(starts at 2:38 mark):
The Heat, like the Nuggets, have been repeatedly counted out in these playoffs but it is safe to say they have now shown they deserve a lot of respect. They also have no quit in them as Gordon stated, as a lot of teams would have wilted after losing Game 6 at the buzzer, but the Heat roared back to blow out the Boston Celtics in Game 7.
It is set up to be a fascinating series and while the Nuggets are the favorites, the Heat have shown time and time again, that they should not be counted out.
Michael Malone Said The Heat Will Be The Biggest Challenge Of Their Lives
The Nuggets certainly are not going to be taking the Heat lightly and head coach Michael Malone told his team to forget that they are facing an eighth seed. He stated it won’t be an easy series, going as far as to say it will be the biggest challenge of their lives.
They would be quite confident they can win this series though and the last 10 meetings between these sides have resulted in nine wins for the Nuggets. The playoffs are a different animal, of course, and it’ll be interesting to see how the Nuggets cope with the pressure of playing in the Finals for the first time.
