Tyler Herro has been having a stellar year as the Miami Heat’s sixth man off the bench. Currently, Tyler Herro is putting up 20.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 4.0 APG while shooting 38.1% from beyond the arc.

There’s no doubt that Tyler Herro is viewed by many as the favorite for the Sixth Man of the Year award. He is having a stellar year off the bench, and he is the second-leading scorer for the Miami Heat.

Coach Erik Spoelstra has recently claimed that Tyler Herro should be an All-Star. Some would argue that a bench player shouldn’t be able to be an All-Star. However, Spoelstra claimed that being an All-Star should be “about impacting winning” and added that the Miami Heat view him as their “sixth starter anyway”. Shandel Richardson of Inside The Heat relayed the news.

‘I would really like to see Tyler Herro become an All-Star,” Spoelstra said. “I think he’s had an All-Star year. I think it would be great for the narrative of that you can still accomplish individual goals if the team is successful and even if you’re coming off the bench. There’s a lot of strong opinions and narratives out there that you have to be X, Y, Z to be considered a great player. I just think it’s a bunch of BS. It’s about impacting winning. Tyler’s been able to do that and we view him as our sixth starter anyway.”

Tyler Herro is obviously a really good shooting guard. He once claimed that he was on the level of superstars like Trae Young and Ja Morant. While he hasn’t exactly gotten to that level yet, he is an amazing contributor on a winning team. Some may not agree with Erik Spoelstra’s take on Herro, but the argument he makes is fairly sound.

The Miami Heat are the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, and there’s no question that Tyler Herro would get All-Star consideration if he were to have been a starter. Perhaps we’ll see Tyler Herro end up getting selected, but there’s certainly a lot of competition for All-Star spots in the Eastern Conference.
