Floyd Mayweather Says He Should Have Won Athlete Of The Decade Over LeBron James

2 Min Read

Since 2010, LeBron James has been the de-facto face of professional basketball.

In the 10 year span, he won 3 NBA Championships, made 10 All-Star appearances, and was selected to the All-NBA team 10 times. He cemented his legacy as one of the greatest ever and gained worldwide fame for his game, brand, and electric personality.

James was recently recognized for his accomplishments by the Associated Press, being named “Athlete of the Decade.”

James is The Associated Press male athlete of the decade, adding his name to a list that includes Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky and Arnold Palmer. He was a runaway winner in a vote of AP member sports editors and AP beat writers, easily outpacing runner-up Tom Brady of the New England Patriots.

It’s a good pick, but not everyone agrees. During an appearance on Drink Champs, Floyd “Money” Mayweather told N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN that he is more deserving of the title than the future NBA Hall-of-Famer.

I love LeBron James, but when we talking about Athlete of the Decade, that’s me,” Floyd said, per Complex. “That’s me. Hands down. We talking about from 1996 to 2020 and I’ve never received Athlete of the Decade,” Floyd continued. “At the top of Forbes and I’m my own boss.”

With a record 26 consecutive wins in world title fights (10 by KO), Mayweather is probably the greatest boxer of All-Time. He’s earned more than any other sports figure and has yet to be defeated in a single match with a 50-0 record. He certainly has a case.

While we are talking specifically about the 2010s, it can be argued that Floyd can be considered the greatest athlete ever.

But LeBron would certainly have a thing or two to say about that.
