Frank Vogel: “Last Year Alex Caruso Was My Secret Weapon. This Year Talen Is My Secret Weapon.”

Frank Vogel and the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to find success this 2020/21 NBA season. After winning the championship last year, the Los Angelenos team is keen to defend their title and they always find good players that improve their level and take them to the next dimension.

Either on free agency, via trade, or with draft picks, the Lakers find the way to land good players that help them succeed in the association. One of the latest cases involves a young player, Talen Horton Tucker, who has had very good performances this year and is seen as one of the players of the future for the franchise. The 20-year-old player has made good impressions this season and the Lakers can’t be happier about it.

That is why Frank Vogel called the young man his “secret weapon” for this season, comparing him to Alex Caruso and his role on the team last term. Talking with reporters, Vogel made the comparison between his players.

“Last year Alex (Caruso) was my secret weapon. This year Talen (Horton-Tucker) is my secret weapon,” Vogel said ahead of the Lakers matchup against the Chicago Bulls.

He had said something similar about Caruso last year, explaining how important the player was going to be for the Lakers, something that was confirmed later by the 26-year-old guard.

“There’s a possibility for [his role] expanding. But right now he’s my secret weapon; I break him out when I need him. He’s certainly earned a rotational spot and he’s in the rotation, but like I said, if we need him to grow into a bigger role, he delivers,” Vogel said about Caruso.

The Lakers are ready to win that second consecutive NBA championship and Vogel knows he has the pieces to reach his goals. THT is one of the most exciting young players in the league and he’s already demonstrating why the purple and gold have so high expectations about him.
