The injury nightmare just shows no signs of ending for Gabe Vincent since joining the Los Angeles Lakers. NBA insider Shams Charania is reporting that Vincent is strongly considering knee surgery which would rule him out of action for six to eight weeks.

“Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent is strongly considering surgery on his left knee with a timetable of 6-to-8 weeks, league sources tell The Athletic and Stadium. Vincent rehabbed for almost two months for return, but the swelling is back and procedure is now a real likelihood.”

Vincent had played the first four games of the season for the Lakers, after which he spent just under two months on the sidelines with a left knee injury. The 27-year-old made his return against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night but now looks set to be out for about two months.

While it certainly isn’t ideal to have another long spell on the sidelines, this certainly seems to be the right move. You’d much rather have the issue fixed with surgery right now, instead of hoping that the swelling just goes away naturally over time and risking him being out for even longer.

NBA Fans React To Gabe Vincent’s Injury Update

This update on Vincent was certainly one that not many saw coming, as he had just made his return. NBA fans reacted to the guard potentially facing another long spell on the sidelines.

One fan says Vincent has turned into Kendrick Nunn 2.0.

Dr. Evan Jeffries, DPT believes Vincent had a meniscus tear and tried to rehab without surgery.

One called out the Lakers’ training staff.

The Lakers should never sign another Miami Heat guard, one fan said.

Many drew parallels to the Kendrick Nunn situation from the 2021-22 season. Just like Vincent, Nunn had been signed by the Lakers in free agency following a productive spell with the Miami Heat. He was diagnosed with a bone bruise in October 2021 and while reports claimed he’d only miss a couple of weeks, he ended up missing the whole season.

Nunn wasn’t the same when he finally returned the following campaign and was traded mid-season to the Washington Wizards. He is now shockingly out of the league after signing with Panathinaikos in the Greek Basketball League and I certainly hope Vincent doesn’t end up down the same path.

The Impact Of Gabe Vincent’s Absence

Vincent hadn’t really impressed on the court when he did play for the Lakers, averaging just 5.4 points, 1.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 37.5% from the field. Still, we are only talking about five games there and you’d have expected that as he spent more time with his new team, he’d have started to play better.

The Lakers, who are off to a disappointing 15-14 start to the season, would have greatly benefited from having the best version of Vincent on the court. His shooting and defense would have greatly helped L.A., and it was why he was their most notable acquisition in free agency, having received a three-year, $33 million deal this past offseason.

Now, they’ll just have to hope that if he does undergo this surgery, he’ll be healthy for the final stretch of the regular season and then the playoffs.
