Dwyane Wade was one of the best scorers in the league for the majority of his career as he used his supreme athletic ability to put on some dazzling displays. Wade won one scoring title in his career in 2008-09 when he averaged over 30 points per game, and all of this was done despite not being to shoot well early on in his career.
Wade’s struggles as a shooter were on full display on the big stage during the 2004 Olympics. He shot under 40% from the field while scoring 7.3 points per game in what was a poor campaign by team USA’s high standards, as they only managed to win the Bronze. At some point after that, when Wade was back with the Heat, and they were set to play the Washington Wizards, Gilbert Arenas was asked about how they planned to guard Wade, and he roasted the youngster with his response.

“They was talking about D-Wade coming to town and I was like ‘we’ll just guard him like they did in the Olympics’. We’re just guarding him like they did in the Olympics, he can’t shoot.”
Arenas instantly regretted the comment he had made and even called up Wade to apologize for it. Wade clearly did not accept the apology though, and when Arenas ended up having to guard him at the game, Wade went off on him and scored 16 points in a hurry with no jump shots.
Arenas said that is exactly why he stopped talking trash to players because it can easily come back to bite you as it did for him here. Wade would, of course, right the wrongs from 2004 on his return to the Olympics in 2008, as he averaged 16 points on 67.1% shooting to help team USA win the Gold Medal. Arenas also spoke about the importance of winning a ring during this episode, and Wade did that, too, just a couple of years after Arenas roasted him.
