NBA superstar Kevin Durant is now on his fourth team in 14 years of play. After a short and dramatic stint with the Nets, KD asked out after the Kyrie Irving trade and is now preparing to play his first game with the Suns alongside Chris Paul and Devin Booker.
As a 2x Champion with nothing left to prove, one would think that Durant would be feeling very little pressure in his new environment.
But during his introductory press conference on Thursday, the 2x Finals MVP revealed she actually does feel pressure because of his status as one of the best basketball players ever.
“It’s pressure because I’m one of the best players to ever play the game. So everytime I step on the floor people are going to expect me to do great things, for the team I’m on to do great things. But I enjoy getting better as a player every day. I enjoy waking up and getting to do this. So I don’t ever say anything’s a failure but I know what’s on our backs and we wanna get the most out of these opportunities.”

As a 13x All-Star, 10x All-NBA player, 4x scoring champ, and 2x champion, there is no question that KD is one of the All-Time greats. Still, his only two titles came while he was on an unbeatable dynasty that only fell after he and Klay Thompson suffered career-ending injuries.
Durant has not yet shown he can lead a different team to a title, but this season may be his best opportunity to do it since leaving the Warriors in 2019.
Durant And The Suns Are the Favorites To Come Out Of The West
While it’s hard to determine where Durant falls in the NBA all-time hierarchy, another championship would add a lot to his already glowing resume. If not this season, then the Suns could make a run next season with the same core and some added depth in the form of veteran role-players.
This is the reality for the Suns now, whose entire world has changed after Durant’s secret trade request earlier this month. After years of heartbreak and disappointment, the franchise finally has a chance to make amends and break the cycle of failure.
As one of the self-proclaimed GOATs, the responsibility mostly falls on Durant himself to make sure the new-look Suns make a respectable run in the Western playoff bracket this year.
