Jamal Crawford On Staying Young In The NBA: “I Didn’t Turn 40, I Turned 20 Twice”

2 Min Read

After being drafted by the Cavs in the 2000 Draft, Jamal Crawford has made quite a career for himself in the NBA. With 3 Sixth Man of the Year awards to his name, and career averages of 14.6 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game on 41% shooting, he is widely considered to be one of the best bench scorers in league history.

Almost 20 years later, Jamal finds himself with Brooklyn. And though he’s not the same player he was, Jamal is still somehow finding ways to stay effective on the court at 40-years-old. He recently talked about his longevity in an interview with Marc Berman.

“My wife changed my diet a few years ago, and that was huge,” he said, per the New York Post’s Marc Berman. “And I’m just staying in love with the game. I didn’t turn 40. I turned 20 twice.”

It’s rare that players play this far into their 30s. Like Vince Carter, he seems to have found ways to keep his body in top playing shape despite his relatively old age.

In Brooklyn, he won’t be playing a large role, but his scoring prowess and NBA experience should provide some value to the Nets. We’re excited to see him take the court again, maybe for the last time.
