Ja Morant has turned into one of the more controversial figures in the NBA today thanks to his actions over the last year or so. His latest misstep was when he flashed a gun on Instagram Live for the second time this year and he is potentially facing a long suspension from the NBA for it.
While Morant has become an unlikeable figure for many, his teammates still have a lot of love for him, and Jaren Jackson Jr. revealed what Ja is like in the Memphis Grizzlies locker room.
“He’s a bro, he’s a homie,” Jackson said on Podcast P. “Kind of jokes, he’s fine. We laugh a lot. I think he has that switch that he can flip where he gets so competitive and he knows when to turn it on for the game. He gets us all in that mode where we’re like, ‘Alright, let’s go out there and be dogs, let’s have that unwavering confidence, it don’t matter what anybody throws at you, it don’t matter.’… He’s just one of the bros.”
(starts at 5:16 mark):
You do like the fact that he doesn’t consider himself above the rest of his teammates because he’s the superstar. It’s no wonder then why you only hear positive things about him from them. The unwavering confidence that Morant projects on his team also explains why they talked so much trash and Ja admitted they need to tone that down a bit moving forward.
Jaren Jackson Also Spoke About Ja Morant’s Gun Controversy
It was inevitable that Jackson would be asked about the gun controversy that Morant is embroiled in at the moment. He stated that everybody makes mistakes growing up and that they are just human. Jackson also stated that he stands by Morant and is confident that his teammate will bounce back from this.
While there is little doubt that Morant will get back to his dominant best whenever he returns to the court, you do hope that he changes his ways off the court. There are concerns among NBA circles that he might not be alive in five years because of the environment he currently finds himself in.
If he can just get his life back on track, then the future is extremely bright for Ja. He has just had another great season where he averaged 26.2 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 8.1 APG, and 1.1 SPG. He should keep ascending in the years to come and if he can stay out of trouble off the court, there’s no limit to what he can achieve.
