In the aftermath of their postseason elimination, the Dallas Mavericks aren’t hanging their heads too low.

In fact, head coach Jason Kidd is feeling optimistic about what is to come for his team and is confident the Mavs will improve next season. In a chat with the media, he revealed what he told star Luka Doncic after Game 5.

Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News:

“We’re going to get better from this, and we’re going to learn. It’s all right to fail. Don’t feel like you came up short. The great ones have always failed and found a way to improve going forward to win a championship,” Kidd said.

Nobody thought the Mavs would get this far. As good as Doncic is, the Mavs do not have a roster that is on the same level as some of the other NBA elites.

They shocked the world in a lot of ways, and Doncic is just one of many feeling optimistic about the future of the organization:

“Great, we are a young team. This year we made a huge step, maybe a couple steps. Obviously we got a lot to do but I think we are on a great way.“

Doncic also called out his defensive performance through the season: “Defense, got to be better for me. Honestly think I made a huge step this year but got to be better.”

The Mavericks have a lot to be proud of when looking back on this season, but they must look forward if they want to build on their progress.

This summer, Nico Harrison will be tasked with finding Doncic a true co-star. Players like Zach LaVine have already been thrown into the mix as potential targets. If they play their cards right, the Mavs could become a serious force in the NBA.
