Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics suffered yet another defeat at home against the Miami Heat. The turning point of the game came when Grant Williams made a tough shot and trash-talked Jimmy Butler. That trash-talk set Butler off, as he had an offensive explosion to win the game. And it appears Williams’ decision to poke the bear didn’t go down well with his teammates, as Jaylen Brown refused to comment on the incident.

A reporter asked Jaylen Brown “Did Grant Williams make a mistake poking the bear with Jimmy Butler?”. To which Brown responded by saying “No comment”.

(Starts at the 2:57 mark):

Brown himself had a tough night, scoring just 16 points with poor efficiency, making just 7 of his 23 attempted shots. On top of that, Brown had just 1 made field goal in the fourth quarter. It was a night to forget for the former All-Star. Brown is averaging 19 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4 assists in the two games against the Heat, a fall in scoring from the 22.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists he averaged against the 76ers.

Brown does have some experience being down 2-0 against Jimmy Butler, having been in this position in his rookie year. Brown played big minutes in the series against Butler and the Chicago Bulls, helping them win the next 4 games and advance to the next round.

What Can Jaylen Brown Do To Step Up?

Brown and the Celtics have to win Game 3 to stand any chance in the series. The biggest thing the Celtics should try to do is not provoke Jimmy Butler, as he said after Game 2 that he is not the person to be trash-talked. But outside of that, Brown needs to show why he is one of the cornerstones of this franchise.

Jaylen Brown must be better on the offensive end and the defensive end of the court. Brown’s size and speed would actually make him a solid option to guard Butler across the series. It won’t be an easy task, but Brown has the talent to be able to guard Butler across the series. But the onus is not just on Brown, as the rest of the Celtics’ players have to step up. Brown’s co-star Jayson Tatum seems confident that the Celtics can overcome this hurdle, but it will take a lot of hard work and solid performances from the entire roster to make that happen.
