Jeanie Buss Takes A Shot At OJ Simpson While Talking About The Weirdest Thing That Happened At A Lakers Game: “You Just Can’t Get Away With Everything”

3 Min Read

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the glitziest basketball franchises of all time. The team enjoys sitting in the heart of Hollywood and has been one of the best teams of the modern era. The franchise has won a championship in every decade except the 1960s, cementing their status as a consistently good team outside the occasional bad season.

Lakers games usually see some of the most high-profile people in America in attendance, usually in one of the courtside seats. From The Forum to STAPLES Center to Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers host some of the biggest names in entertainment and sports as guests on game nights.

Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, who recently proclaimed Michael Jordan as the GOAT of basketball over her current star LeBron James, revealed that one of these guests was OJ Simpson, who was high-profile for all the wrong reasons in the ’90s. After being acquitted of murder, Simpson attended a Laker game and ended up illegally parking outside The Forum and had his car towed.

“The weirdest thing was right after OJ Simpson was acquitted. He was coming to a game and I had to talk to the staff and say, ‘he’s like anybody else who has a ticket, we have to show him respect and make sure he is treated like any other paying guest’. So he came to a game but he illegally parked at The Forum, so, his car was towed. You just can’t get away with everything.”

The Lakers are masters in hospitality and ensuring their guests have a good time, so they probably gave OJ the treatment they give most VIPs and then also had to break the news to him that his car had been towed.

The ‘you can’t get away with everything’ remark relates to questions around his acquittal in his infamous murder case. Either way, Simpson got to enjoy a Laker game at the cost of his car, a price many people would be willing to pay to see the purple and gold in action.
