By the time Tracy McGrady joined the Atlanta Hawks in 2011, he was well past his prime. McGrady was an All-Star seven years in a row from 2001 to 2007 but injuries slowed him down greatly after that.
Still, though, his arrival in Atlanta was a big deal for Jeff Teague, who had seen McGrady dominate the league in the 2000s. It appears though that T-Mac didn’t think too highly of Teague at all.
“My third year, I was starting point guard, he came to our team,” Teague said on his Club 520 Podcast. “And he was really pissed that I was starting… He pulled up in a Maybach (to practice), I’m a fan, I’m like ‘Damn. That’s T-Mac in the Maybach with some big a** Gucci clothes on.’
“I’m like, ‘Damn, what up?’ He’s like, ‘What’s up?’,” Teague continued. “They start calling the starting lineup, the groups, n**** look like, “This n****?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah yeah.’ He like, ‘This n**** trash.’ I’m like, heart dropped, ‘Oh, he got me f***ed up.’ So now it was f*** T-Mac.
“I just started talking s*** to him the rest of the year like, ‘N**** you ain’t ever been LeBron, Kobe ain’t respect you.'” Teague added. “He was like, ‘N**** who the f*** are you?’ I ain’t got s*** to say, I kept talking s*** about other n***** like, ‘Kobe man he said you ain’t work hard enough.’… Then that n**** stoke me in the chest one night. I wanted to fight that n**** so bad. That n**** Marvin Williams was like, ‘Man, he’d beat the s*** outta you, man relax.'”
McGrady denied this story, however, as he claimed Teague was just making things up for the podcast.

Teague isn’t backing down, however, and it would be quite surprising if he just randomly decided to make up this story about McGrady.
It would be somewhat understandable that T-Mac was surprised Teague was going to be the starter for the Hawks. He had averaged just 5.2 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 2.0 APG, 0.6 SPG, and 0.4 BPG off the bench the previous season, but the Hawks knew what he was capable of. He’d be their starting point guard for five seasons and made an All-Star team in that time as well.
As for McGrady, that 2011-12 season would be the last time he’d play significant minutes in the NBA. He played in China for a year after that season and did get signed by the San Antonio Spurs in 2013, but only played six playoff games in which he averaged just over 5 MPG.
Jeff Teague Shared A Hilarious Stephen Curry Story
Not every former player is really suited to his podcasting business, but Teague certainly is. He shared a hilarious story during this episode about playing against Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in China.
“We went to China, we played KD, Steph. I swear to god I played the best defense, the hardest defense I ever played in my life… There’s 100,000 people in the stands. I’m like ‘f*ck that, he ain’t about to kill me’. I’ve never played this hard. Tibs came to me after the game and said that’s the best defense I ever played. Steph Curry had 44. He made every shot… I contested every one bro”.
Teague wasn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last to have absolutely no answer for Curry. That game was in the preseason before the 2017-18 campaign and Curry actually finished the night with 40 points as the Warriors won 142-110.
