There is a generation of players in the Eastern Conference that never made a Final appearance because LeBron James played 15 years of his career in the East and made nine Finals. Jeff Teague is among that generation, and he recently told the story behind shoving LeBron in the 2016 Playoffs because of frustrations regarding being winless in the playoffs against him.

“My fault, GOAT. GOAT James. We was losing, sh*t I’m a sore loser. I ain’t win a playoff game against that n****, ever. I was sick of this sh*t. Motherf***ing fans in Atlanta will cheer for him, he running down the court. I say, ‘You know what b**ch, I got something for you!’ Shoulder checked the sh*t outta that n****, he went to the stands. I got so much hate, ‘If he would’ve been hurt, I would’ve killed you b****!’ I’m like, ‘Ayo, I gotta get off the internet.’ That’s when I first deleted Instagram. That was my first time deleting Instagram. I was like, I gotta get off this sh*t.”

Teague might be one of the best storytellers in the NBA. Everything he says i naturally engaging, with this story about LeBron being hilarious. Teague has never backed down from a challenge in the NBA, even if LeBron stood across the court from him.

He averaged 12.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 5.6 assists as a role-player for the majority of his career, though he did make an All-Star team with the same Hawks roster that LeBron would sweep in 2015 and 2016 in the playoffs

Jeff Teague Regretted Talking Trash To LeBron

Jeff Teague was always ready to back up his trash-talk when it came to fending off players around his skill level. A one-on-one battle between Teague and Ricky Rubio would be fun to watch, but Teague is a little outmatched as a player when it comes to LeBron James. This is why it’s funny that Teague once tried trash-talking LeBron by saying he can keep scoring at the same pace as LeBron and outscore him over a season.

Instead of me writing anything, we should hand this over to Teague for the exact exchange.

“We had a game, and I think I had given Dellavedova something crazy. I was like, ‘It’s gonna be a long f*****g night.’ He [LeBron James] was like, ‘Can you score more than me n***a?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah.’ Bron [told him that]. I’m like, ‘Well, you’re gonna have to show me.’ I averaged 18 in that series, and Bron had like 38.”

Teague doesn’t mention what series he’s talking about, but it seems he’s referring to the 2015 Eastern Conference Finals matchup between the Hawks and Cavaliers. As we’ve discussed, the series ended as a sweep in The Cavs’ favor. It was one of Teague’s best career playoff performances, averaging 21.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

LeBron dominated the Hawks thoroughly, averaging 30.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists of his own.
