The Miami Heat are shocking the NBA world right now, and two-way star Jimmy Butler is the one spearheading the whole thing. Since starting the postseason, Butler has elevated his game to an entirely new level, and it has fueled a miraculous run by the Heat, who are now within three wins of an NBA championship.

While many fans and experts praise Butler for his heroic efforts, Butler is doing his best to stay humble and keep his focus on the court. Ahead of Game 3 on Wednesday, he dispelled the ‘Playoff Jimmy’ narrative and affirmed his desire to win at all costs.

“I’m not a scorer. Just cuz I score a lot of points in one game, it doesn’t make you a scorer… If I pass the ball every possession, if we win, I don’t care. If I shoot the ball every possession and we win, I don’t care. This ‘Playoff Jimmy’ narrative is not a thing. I just wanna win.”

We all know that Butler is capable of some great bursts offensively, and he almost always delivers when his team needs a bucket. But the secret to Butler’s game isn’t necessarily about scoring points, it’s about his impact as a leader and competitor on the floor.

Against the Nuggets in these Finals, the Heat have been pretty up-and-down, but they’ll need another powerful performance from Butler (and Bam Adebayo) if they want to take Game 3.

Miami’s Playoff Run Is Unprecedented

The Heat look like a completely different team than the one we saw all season long. With Jimmy, Bam, Caleb Martin, and Gabe Vincent (among others), Miami’s players have all stepped up to deliver and it has been impressive to watch.

“At the end of the day, that’s what we fall back on,” said Butler. “Make or miss shots. We’re gonna be who we are because we’re not worried about anyone else. That’s how it’s been all year long and that’s not gonna change. That’s what I think it is, it is the ‘I don’t give a damn’ factor.”

Of course, this run won’t mean much if they don’t finish the job. After coming this far, you can bet the Heat will be desperate to protect their home court and do whatever it takes to complete the mission.
