Jimmy Butler is one of the premier players in the NBA, and he has been carrying the Miami Heat for the last few seasons.

The Miami Heat have made it to the NBA Finals and the Eastern Conference Finals in the last 3 seasons with a team spearheaded by Jimmy Butler. However, they don’t look as good this season, and according to what an anonymous executive told Heavy, Butler’s future with the Heat is uncertain.

“If they really wanted to overhaul, it would have to start with Jimmy Butler and that is a tricky, tricky proposition,” the executive told Heavy Sports’ Sean Deveney.

There are a lot of reasons the Miami Heat wouldn’t take a step so drastically, and the executive’s reasoning does seem a bit off as well.

“He has a home in Miami, but we have seen Jimmy cause some problems in other places, and no one has forgotten that. Minnesota, Philadelphia, Chicago, he has some history, right? So that is a problem,” the executive said.

“Then you have the fact that he is going to be 34 this summer. He has played well, and his numbers have held up but he works so hard for everything he gets that you can imagine he is going to have a pretty quick drop-off once age catches up to him. That is another tough thing they’d have to deal with.”

His age is an understandable point, but the narrative about Jimmy Butler causing problems has been well and truly buried during his time with the Heat. Butler has been exemplary in running his team, and the locker room has been closely knit despite the occasional disagreement. In any case, his importance to the franchise at the moment is on a different level, and it would be tough for them to replace him.

Jimmy Butler’s Contributions For The Miami Heat This Season

Jimmy Butler’s statistics have somehow gone up this season, even though he is now 33. Butler is averaging 22.3 points per game to go along with 6.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.9 steals. These are excellent numbers, and although the Heat has been inconsistent, Butler has been the one big bright spot for the team.

People may not believe in this Miami Heat team as contenders this season, but Butler seems to think he can win a championship playing next to Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro. The window is closing for him and the franchise though. And if they can’t make another deep run during this postseason, some tough questions will be asked again.
