Joel Embiid is one of the most dominant big men in the game today. He is an amazing three-level scorer and is a fantastic rim protector on the defensive end. Currently, Joel Embiid is averaging 30.0 PPG, 11.5 RPG, and 4.3 APG.

There have been a lot of people who have stated that Joel Embiid should be this season’s MVP. One of those people is fellow superstar Kevin Durant, who previously claimed that it’s between Joel Embiid, DeMar DeRozan, or Ja Morant.

“If I had to take a guess, I will go, it’s between Joel Embiid, DeMar DeRozan, Ja Morant for me, those are my top three,” Durant said. “And I’ll probably go Joel. It’s, I mean [Nikola] Jokic, you could throw Jokic in there, but I’ll probably go Joel. I mean there’s so many players playing at a high level man, so like I said the other day, league’s in a great place.”

Joel Embiid has recently commented on winning the MVP after the recent matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers, claiming that it will be “great” to win the MVP, but adding that he doesn’t know what he has to do to win the award if he doesn’t get it. An article by ESPN relayed the news.

“If it happens, great,” Embiid said of winning his first MVP. “If it doesn’t, I don’t know what I have to do. I’ll feel like they hate me. I feel like the standard for guys in Philly or for me is different than everyone else.”

It remains to be seen if Joel Embiid does end up winning the MVP award. He is certainly a deserving candidate, but there are others such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic who have great cases.

The wider goal for Joel Embiid will be to win the NBA championship this season. The Philadelphia 76ers are contenders this season after acquiring James Harden, and perhaps this is the year they end up getting out of the Eastern Conference and making the Finals.
