Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are both considered to be among the best offensive players in the league. There’s no question that they are top-tier scorers who are capable of getting buckets in isolation against most defenders in the league.

During the recent game between the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors, young forward Jonathan Kuminga was tasked with guarding the Celtics’ superstars for extended stretches. Kuminga was asked about the tough defensive assignments, and he responded by saying that he is comfortable guarding “anybody in the league.”

Jonathan Kuminga on defending Tatum/Brown tonight: “I’m confident in guarding anybody in the league.”

There is no doubt that Jonathan Kuminga’s athletic prowess and size allow him to defend multiple positions, and guard elite offensive wings such as Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum effectively. Obviously, it is hard to completely neutralize players of that caliber, but Kuminga definitely did a good job in his latest game.

Jonathan Kuminga Has Been Compared To Kawhi Leonard

There is no doubt that Jonathan Kuminga has an extremely high ceiling due to his athleticism. In fact, a Warriors analyst has recently suggested that he can be another Kawhi Leonard.

“This guy is finally starting to get it. He can do a lot of gifted things on the offensive side but now he is slowing the game down a little bit, he’s not rushing… We talked about his defense, he can be another Kawhi Leonard in my opinion. Do it on both ends of the floor right here, staying with one of the best players in the league when it comes to scoring the basketball, finishing with the block, finishing with the rebound, and getting a bit scrappy out there with Jordan Clarkson. He ain’t gonna back down from nobody. I love JK, man. He’s going to be a big time player in this league.”

Based on his already solid defense, there is a chance that Jonathan Kuminga manages to become an elite player in the league. However, to become Kawhi Leonard, he’ll need to improve his offense dramatically.

Hopefully, we see Jonathan Kuminga reach his potential with the Golden State Warriors. They are known for having a good development staff, and we’ll see if they are able to help him develop into a star-level player. Though he may have to wait to get a real opportunity, Jonathan Kuminga’s talent is absolutely there.
