Jordan Poole had a breakout season with the Golden State Warriors in 2021-22, proving to be an integral piece in the Warriors’ run to becoming the 2022 NBA Champions. Poole was a late first-round pick and has already blossomed into a player that could fetch well over a $100 million extension in the league.

The Warriors have to extend Poole this season and have a deadline of October 12th before Poole can hit the open market as a restricted free agent next offseason. They could agree on a deal with him at the start of the 2023 offseason based on his play this season, something Poole is confident in while his representatives try to figure out the best deal possible. He revealed this during Warriors’ media day.

“We did what we needed to do last year. Got a championship as a team, and obviously, that’s something that’s out there, but I’m going to let my reps handle that. I have confidence that we’ll work something out. I’m just here to play basketball and excited to be back with the team. However, we go into the season is however we go in. I’m going to play my game, continue to be me, and put everything forth to help us win games, whatever the situation or circumstance is.”

Will The Golden State Warriors’ Salary Problems Be Too Much To Handle?

The Golden State Warriors have reached a point where paying astronomical amounts of money in luxury tax because they are over the salary cap is becoming unsustainable. The team has 3 important free agents hitting the market soon; Poole, Draymond Green, and Andrew Wiggins. It’ll be very hard for them to retain all 3 players at market value.

GM Bob Myers has said that they do not want any of the 3 players to leave the team. But with the Warriors not agreeing to a single contract extension in the offseason, there is a chance that GSW is rolling the dice with how these players perform this season and what they can fetch on the open market.

Poole saw a similarly rated player in Anferne Simons sign a $100 million extension with the Portland Trailblazers. Unless the Warriors convince him to give them a discount, it seems Golden State will have to fork out something similar, if not more, to retain Poole on their squad.
