The NBA may be headed towards normalcy, but COVID-19 is a monster that continues to rage on throughout the world.

Predictably, the methods to combat the virus itself have now become politicized, as groups from all different areas make their case against masks and the COVID-19 vaccine.

Recently, Karl-Anthony Towns spoke out against those groups (the anti-vaxxers), in a rather aggressive Tweet.

“Every day I see a new excuse why people ain’t getting the vaccine. Ya starting to get creative with these “reasons” though and it’s actually really funny.”

Towns, who has lost family members to the virus, including his mother, used himself as an example of the seriousness of the pandemic, reminding the public that it can happen to anyone.

“It never matters to people until it happens to them.” The Timberwolves star said. “I hope no one has to deal with what I’ve had to and still continue to deal with.”

Like many others, Towns has a personal stake in the battle against this pandemic. Over the past year and a half, he has experienced unimaginable loss and heartache.

Here’s the message Towns shared following his first game back onto the court after the death of his mother:

“You may see me smiling and stuff, but that Karl died on April 13th,” Towns said. “He’s never coming back. I don’t remember that man. I don’t know that man. You’re talking to the physical me, but my soul has been killed off a long time ago,” Towns said.

The NBA and its players have taken a hard stance in support of vaccinations and masks, which isn’t all that surprising at all.

In the past, the league has never been shy about standing up for what they believe in.

As for the fight against COVID, it will only continue to rage on over the next few weeks and months, maybe longer.
