This season’s MVP race has been borderline toxic. With the top two candidates (Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid) in a neck-and-neck showdown for the award, the community is split on who ultimately deserves it the most.

Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, however, MVP voted Kendrick Perkins did not give Jokic or Embiid the edge on his ballot. Instead, he revealed his intentions to give Giannis Antetokounmpo the nod.

“We are getting bored with Giannis because it’s the norm! We are talking about a guy that is fifth in the league in scoring,” said Perk. “Right now, he’s averaging a career-high in points, his team has the best record in the league, he’s third in rebounding, and guess what? These points that he’s averaging, he’s doing it in 32 minutes… you can rely on him to play night in and night out. He is playing like he has something to prove, and I’m going to say it right now: he’s the best player in the league, on the best team, averaging a career-high in points and third in rebounding. Giannis is getting my vote for MVP.”

It’s well-known across the league that Giannis is the underdog to win MVP, but should that be the case? With averages of 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game on 55.3% shooting, the numbers certainly support his MVP campaign.

As far as the Bucks go, they have been among the best teams in the league all season long, and it’s Giannis who has consistently kept them afloat through various injuries and other obstacles.

So, at the very least, we can all agree that Giannis deserves a long look when it comes to the MVP voting this season. But if you ask the Greek Freak himself, his only focus is on capturing another championship.

Can Giannis Win Another Title In Milwaukee?

Only time will prove whether the Bucks can make another championship run, but the odds are looking pretty good as the season comes to a close. Even if they somehow don’t make it happen this year, Giannis isn’t going anywhere, and we can expect the Bucks to be in contention for years to come.

Along the way, Giannis is likely to continue adding accolades to his resume — even if it doesn’t include this year’s MVP honors.
