Anthony Edwards is playing in the first playoff series of his career and Game 1 was nothing short of an announcement from the youngster. He dropped 36 points, leading Minnesota to a surprising victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, and his confidence is seemingly at an all-time high. As expected, he earned a lot of praise for his performance, considering that he’s been playing at an elite level for a long time now.
And Ant-Man has impressed Kendrick Perkins, who compared him to the man who won Rookie Of The Year in Ant’s draft class, LaMelo Ball. According to Big Perk, Edwards is a different animal compared to Ball, and it’s hard to argue with Perkins on this, considering that Edwards is already averaging over 21 points per game in his sophomore year while also doing it when the lights are the brightest (via Sportskeeda).
“Last year when I was screaming, I said, look, Anthony Edwards is generational. Anthony Edwards should have won rookie of the year and I’m a Lamelo Ball fan but he’s no Anthony Edwards. And I think really we got to stop even having those two in the same conversation, just being realistic. It’s just two different animals bro and when I’m watching this dude ant-man his swag is on another level.”
Ball has managed to power his Charlotte Hornets team to the play-in tournament two seasons in a row but they have failed to make it to the playoffs. Edwards, meanwhile, has been key to the Minnesota Timberwolves getting into the postseason for the first time since 2018.
LaMelo is an excellent all-around player and a scorer as well, but so far, he’s not really stepped up and grabbed the limelight in the way Edwards has. This take might be a little premature from Perkins, Ball has shown every attribute to suggest he can be a superstar in the NBA but considering where they both are now, it’s kind of understandable why Big Perk would say that.
