In a recent Instagram story, NBA star Kevin Durant raised eyebrows by seemingly backing up Drake amidst the ongoing rap beef with Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross and other top rappers. Durant’s support for the Canadian rapper, evident through his listening to Drake’s ‘No Friends In The Industry,’ not only grabbed headlines but also shed light on his mindset off the court.

The saga began with Drake’s 2023 release, ‘First Person Shooter,’ where he and J. Cole claimed supremacy in the rap industry, dubbing themselves “the big three” and including Lamar in the conversation.

Lamar’s subsequent collaboration with Metro Boomin’ led to the retort track ‘Like That,’ where he vehemently opposed the notion of a “big three.” This rift seemingly united the industry against Drake, setting the stage for Durant’s recent actions.

Durant’s public support for Drake isn’t entirely surprising given their longstanding friendship. Their bond dates back years, with Durant even appearing in Drake’s music video for ‘Laugh Now Cry Later.’ Drake, in turn, paid homage to their friendship in his song ‘Weston Road Flows.’ Hence, Durant’s gesture may simply reflect his loyalty to a friend rather than a strategic move amidst the rap feud.

However, there’s another angle to consider. With the NBA playoffs looming, Durant’s focus is undoubtedly on securing his third championship. His Instagram story could symbolize his unwavering determination, echoing the sentiment of ‘No Friends In The Industry’ as he gears up for postseason success.

Ultimately, Durant’s support for Drake adds an intriguing layer to the ongoing rap drama, blurring the lines between sports and entertainment. Whether it’s a genuine endorsement of friendship or a calculated statement of intent, Durant’s actions underscore the influence of music and camaraderie beyond the basketball court.

As the postseason approaches, all eyes will be on both Durant and Drake to see how their respective journeys unfold.
