Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were one of the best star duos of the 2010s, and they won two championships together in 2017 and 2018. The Golden State Warriors were close to unstoppable when the two played together, and it is unfortunate that we only saw a few years of them together.
Kevin Durant has notably requested a trade, and one of the teams that he has been connected to is the Golden State Warriors. It was even reported that Stephen Curry has reportedly contacted Kevin Durant several times about returning to the team.
KD UPDATE: Ric Bucher is reporting that Steph Curry has reached out to KD several times about a reunion: “A league source says Curry has reached out several times to Durant, eager to improve his chances of winning a fifth championship and surpassing LeBron James.” #dubnation
Here’s what Curry said about possible reunion KD in Tahoe: “The rumor mill and all that stuff is part of the nature of the NBA and league,” Curry told NBC Sports Bay Area. “You take it for what it is. You know how quickly things can change, but I like where we’re at.”
Some people have suggested that Kevin Durant wouldn’t want to return to the Golden State Warriors because he wants to build his own legacy without Stephen Curry. However, Chris Broussard shared that an NBA source told him that Kevin Durant wants to play with Stephen Curry on the Warriors, rather than play another year with Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets.
"Golden State can offer Brooklyn a very strong package — better than most teams — for Kevin Durant. … A source texted me after KD's trade request & said that KD doesn't want to play with Kyrie, & he wants to go to Golden State. It's not an impossibility." — @Chris_Broussard pic.twitter.com/ApJ4z7RkMV

“Golden State can offer Brooklyn a very strong package — better than most teams — for Kevin Durant. … A good source texted me that Kevin Durant doesn’t want to play with Kyrie, and he wants to go to Golden State… It’s hard to believe. I haven’t confirmed it with Kevin Durant or his agent. I am leaning strongly leaning towards not believing that. But is it an impossibility? No.”
There is no doubt that Kevin Durant going back to the Golden State Warriors would be absolutely insane. The Warriors would likely be the favorite team for the next few championships, and they could potentially match the Michael Jordan Bulls in the number of championships.
It remains to be seen if the Golden State Warriors will in fact make a trade for Kevin Durant. They have the assets to do so, but they do have a championship-caliber team already. Trading for Kevin Durant would usually be a no-brainer, but perhaps the Warriors feel comfortably running it back with their current squad.
