Kevin Durant On 2020 MVP Award Voting: “If You Include The Playoffs, Then Bron Is Easily The MVP. But I See Why, With The Rules Now, Why Giannis Was The MVP.”

Despite all the good things he did during the regular season, Giannis Antetokounmpo being honored the 2020 NBA MVP award has raised some controversy around the league, especially from people stating LeBron James deserved the award, not Antetokounmpo. Well, if you take a look at the things Giannis did during the regular season, it’s hard to think he doesn’t deserve the award, but plenty of people believe something needs to change with the voting rules to be fairer with players.

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant has spoken about this recently, saying the league should change the rules for MVP voting so that media members can ponder better who they think deserves to win the longed-for award.

“The criteria is the regular season but I understand. I feel the same way you feel. I feel they should evaluate the whole season, evaluate the playoffs included. If you include the playoffs, then ‘Bron is easily the MVP. I see now why Giannis was the MVP. His numbers was crazy,” Durant said during an appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast.

Durant is an MVP award winner himself; he took the trophy home in 2014 after a monstrous season with the Oklahoma City Thunder. That year, KD curiously beat LeBron for the award after posting 32.0 points per game with the Thunder.

Even LeBron showed his disagreement with the votes he got for the award. If you do as KD did, LeBron should win the award, no doubt about it, but the league made it clear that the results were going to be based on the performances until March 11, one day before the league suspended its activities due to the coronavirus outbreak.

That said, Giannis is a well-deserving back-to-back MVP award winner.
