The Phoenix Suns are looking to get the first NBA championship in their franchise history. After coming close in 1996 and 2021, losing in the Finals both years, the team has made a move to maximize the core from their 2021 Finals run.

Kevin Durant was traded to the Suns for a massive package that sent Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Jae Crowder to the Brooklyn Nets along with 5 first-round draft picks, with 4 of them being unprotected.

Durant had his first press conference as a member of the Suns and expressed his respect for new co-star Devin Booker and praised the young star’s offensive arsenal.

“As far as Devin, he has a pure game. He can score from every area on the floor with efficiency. He’s athletic but he don’t show it a lot. Like, last game he had 2 dunks, it surprised me out of nowhere, even though I know he has that in his tool bag. He’s just a quiet, efficient scorer, and he goes about his business on and off the court in a mature manner. I just want to be a part of it and his journey to see how good he can get from here. He’s just one of those players that I really admire. People are gonna be doing classes on him once he’s done playing. You can learn so much by watching his game.”

Durant had many noteworthy statements from this press conference. He expressed that the Suns can win a championship this season while also discussing the end of his tenure with the Brooklyn Nets, especially the impact of Kyrie Irving’s trade to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Sun Rises Over Phoenix

It feels like a new dawn in Phoenix. Durant said he is one of the greatest to ever do it and there is no disputing that. He was playing at an MVP level this season before his injury, so if he can bring that KD onto the court alongside Booker, Chris Paul, and Deandre Ayton, the Suns may be impossible to stop.

Given the move was primarily a response to their humiliation at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks in the 2022 playoffs, excitement for a rematch between the rival franchises is at an all-time high, especially with KD’s old teammate Kyrie in Dallas. That may be cool but it isn’t even close to the goal for Phoenix, who will push toward a championship every season that they have KD on the roster.
