Warriors star Klay Thompson has sparked some major heat online after his latest Instagram activity was exposed to the world. For some reason, the 4x NBA champion has cleaned out his Instagram of any Warriors-related posts and has also unfollowed the team itself.

Thompson, 34, has been with the Warriors his entire career. Since being drafted in 2011, he has built his reputation as one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history. Through 10 seasons so far, Thompson is averaging Alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, he helped lead the Warriors to four NBA championships in what is widely considered to be one of the most dominant runs by any NBA team.

Even after two major injuries and an obvious decline in performance, Klay and the Warriors remained loyal to each other — or so we thought. Thompson, who just finished the last year of his contract, is up for free agency this July, and he was expected to agree to terms to return to the Warriors.

Instead, it seems that Thompson may be cutting ties with his old friends. On Instagram, Klay has completely cut out the Warriors from his past. His profile on X, meanwhile, remains untouched — but his last post there was over four months ago.

It’s hard to make out what all of this means, but something like this can’t be an accident. For reasons we can only assume are related to his contract negotiations, he’s making a public statement against the Warriors and the whole world has taken notice.

Online, the narrative was mixed as fans argued about the motive behind Klay’s Instagram cleanse. The most obvious answer is that he’s likely headed to a new team to finish out his career.

“We’re 18 days away from free agency & this is happening now, which tells me the sides are at a point where they’re unable to [agree on a deal],” said Dan Dibley on 95.7 ‘the Game.’ “Klay’s not happy about it, so he goes to IG.”

Klay Thompson is a hero in Warriors lore and he has expressed many times his desire to retire with the franchise. So to see him take this step now is hard to believe and many folks are still coming to grips with the severity of the situation.

Of course, the bigger question is what this means for the Warriors dynasty. If Klay leaves, it could become the first domino to fall in a total collapse of the team. At the every least, it will make the end of an era for this group after over a decade together.

It’s still not too late for reconciliation. Even at his age and with his injuries, Klay feels like he’s worth more than whatever the Warriors are trying to offer him. This could adjust be his attempt to try and pressure his team into giving him what he wants.

Either way, it’s an unexpected turn of events for Klay and the Warriors. After going through so much together, I never thought they might actually consider a split. But after finishing 10th in the West standings this season, it’s possible that some people within the team have started to doubt if this core can still win at the highest level.

While Thompson may no longer be in his prime form, he’s still someone who will command a lot of interest across the league, especially from teams like the Lakers, Thunder, and the Philadelphia 76ers.
