Forward Draymond Green is one of the best defensive players in the league, and there’s no doubt that he’s a key part of the Golden State Warriors’ system. They would have won no championships without his defense.
Though he has always been a starter during the team’s championship runs, Draymond Green came off the bench in Game 4 against the Sacramento Kings. Recently, Klay Thompson spoke out about this decision, pointing out that “Draymond is a winner”.
“He’s a selfless player. Draymond is a winner and he realized that last game we got a great flow offensively with the four-guard lineup, and to stagger him and Loon’s minutes benefited us a lot… Just a big-time adjustment by the coaching staff and complete unselfishness by Draymond that allows us to reach our goal. That’s why he’s the champion he is,” Thompson said.

There is no doubt that Draymond Green is a player that does whatever is necessary to get his team the win. He is a competitor, and it is clear that he has no issues coming off the bench to help the team.
This postseason, Draymond Green has put up 8.0 PPG, 7.7 RPG, and 7.7 APG for the Golden State Warriors. Though he has been inefficient on offense, his impact on the other aspects of the game far outweighs his relatively poor scoring ability.
Draymond Green Came Off The Bench To Improve Their Shooting In The Starting Lineup
In the modern NBA, 3PT shooting is key to a team’s success. In fact, part of the reason the Warriors brought Draymond Green off the bench was to improve their shooting, and not have multiple non-shooters in the starting lineup.
“The decision stemmed from the Warriors’ desire to split up their non-shooters and separate Green and Kevon Looney, sources told ESPN. Golden State liked the spacing it played with in Game 3 while Green was suspended. The Warriors also played one of their best defensive games of the series.”
It is unclear if the Warriors will keep using Draymond Green as a sixth-man type of player for the rest of their series against the Kings. It worked out for them in Game 4, and there’s no reason to go away from their current game plan.
