There is no doubt that Draymond Green has been crucial for the Golden State Warriors dynasty, and he anchored four separate championship-level defenses. He is a franchise legend and will deservedly get his jersey retired at some point.

Though we have seen Draymond Green historically start for the franchise during their dynastic run, he recently came off the bench for the Golden State Warriors in Game 4. After the game, Draymond Green explained why he suggested this to Steve Kerr, noting that he didn’t want to shake things up after the Warriors found success in Game 3.

“We won. So, I’m a firm believer in ‘if something isn’t broke, you don’t fix it,’” said Green. “I didn’t want to come back and just shake things up because I’m back.”

“There’s a lot of guys who, you know, 11 years in, you start to feel a sense of entitlement… I never want to reach that point in my career, where I feel entitled to something. Those guys don’t fare well in the end,” he added.

Draymond Green is a competitor, and it is clear that he is willing to do whatever it takes to help the Golden State Warriors win. That includes coming off the bench, and he actually played really well, getting 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists.

Thus far in the playoffs, Draymond Green has averaged 8.0 PPG, 7.7 RPG, and 7.7 APG for the Golden State Warriors. Though he has struggled with his scoring, he has impacted every other aspect of the game, and hopefully, that continues.

The Golden State Warriors Brought Draymond Green Off The Bench To Improve Their Spacing

The key reason the Warriors decided to bring Draymond Green off the bench in Game 4 of their series against the Sacramento Kings is to improve the team’s spacing and “split up their non-shooters”.

“The decision stemmed from the Warriors’ desire to split up their non-shooters and separate Green and Kevon Looney, sources told ESPN. Golden State liked the spacing it played with in Game 3 while Green was suspended. The Warriors also played one of their best defensive games of the series.”

It is clear that this decision has paid dividends for the Golden State Warriors, as they won Game 4 to even the series at 2-2. It remains to be seen if Draymond Green continues to come off the bench, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
