The Los Angeles Lakers essentially ended the Golden State Warriors dynasty after they demolished them in Game 6 and eliminated them from the playoffs. This run for the Warriors has been extremely dominant but all great dynasties fall eventually.
And there is one man that figured this would happen long before anyone else. In 2018, when the Warriors had won their 3rd championship in 4 seasons and the Lakers were struggling, Kobe had predicted that the tables would turn one day.
“We’ll be champions again before you know it,” Bryant said during an appearance at Lakers All-Access. “And we’ll be laughing in the faces of all those Warriors fans who came out of nowhere.”
Kobe Bryant said this after LeBron James made his decision to join the Lakers. And the team did win a championship after that too, claiming it in 2020. But the Warriors still had their core and would go on to win in 2022. The recent success ensured that Warriors fans stayed quite happy with their team.
The Lakers firmly put an end to that this year, though. The Warriors were comprehensively beaten without any injuries to their best players. This could mean the end of the dynasty, although the organization may decide to keep things going with these pieces after all. What matters is that Kobe was right, and the Warriors fans aren’t laughing any longer.
The Warriors Could Still Have The Last Laugh With Their Current Stars
Although Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were far from dominant, Stephen Curry showed that he can still lead the Warriors to the top. And Dubs fans may still get a chance to have the last laugh, with Shams Charania reporting that the franchise might end up moving forward with their core.
“Members inside the Warriors organization still believe their core can compete for titles because Stephen Curry remains a top-five player in the NBA and both Draymond Green and Klay Thompson aren’t showing signs of a steep decline, per Shams Charania.”
Age is not a friend to the Warriors, their best players are all on the wrong side of 30. They also have contracts coming up that might cause issues. It’s safe to say that the Lakers might have ended their dynasty for good after all.
