The Warriors Still Believe Their Core Of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, And Draymond Green Can Compete For Titles

The Golden State Warriors finally lost outside of the NBA Finals with their core but they still believe that the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green can compete for titles.

The Golden State Warriors have been eliminated in the Western Conference playoffs for the first time in over eight years. It feels like the end of an era for their dynasty, but not everyone seems to think so.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green have been the centerpieces of a franchise that won four NBA titles in 8 years. And as Shams Charania recently reported, they still believe that the core isn’t done just yet.

“Members inside the Warriors organization still believe their core can compete for titles because Stephen Curry remains a top-five player in the NBA and both Draymond Green and Klay Thompson aren’t showing signs of a steep decline, per Shams Charania.”

Stephen Curry isn’t in decline, to say the least, he has been playing at an elite level even this season. He was the only player carrying the Warriors during this playoff run, he scored more than 30 points per game in the postseason.

Klay Thompson and Draymond Green both underperformed during their current run, to say the least. He posted the worst shooting percentages of his playoff career by far, shooting under 39% from the field and under 37% from three-point range. Draymond Green also wasn’t much better, although his raw numbers don’t look all that different.

The trio has achieved enough to deserve the benefit of the doubt when it comes to these things, they are proven winners and then won a championship last season. But the Warriors should be careful to not try to hold on to something for longer than necessary, as it could cost Stephen Curry the last few years of his prime.

Draymond Green And Klay Thompson Have Both Been Linked With Moves Away

Stephen Curry is a Warrior for life, no one can doubt that. However, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green’s status might be a little shakier. There is trade speculation surrounding Thompson, and he could be on the move if the right offer comes. The organization reportedly wants him to take a pay cut too, which could lead to an exit.

As far as Draymond Green is concerned, he has been vocal about wanting big money, although the Warriors surely won’t give it, especially after this loss. Green has long been linked with the Lakers, the team that just beat the Warriors, and he could move on too. Things were great when they were winning, but Golden State now finds itself at a crossroads, and everyone is waiting to see the path they will choose.
