Kyrie Irving Needs To Take $30 Million Pay Cut If He Wants To Join Los Angeles Lakers This Summer, Says Adrian Wojnarowski

Kyrie Irving is the man of the hour in the NBA after a report suggested that he might be out of the Brooklyn Nets this offseason. The talented point guard and the team couldn’t agree on a contract extension and now they could take different routes for the future.

A lot has been said about this, with other reports suggesting that Kevin Durant will play a role in Kyrie’s future, while others add that their relationship isn’t as strong as many think. This obviously has fueled the rumors that Irving is set to leave the Nets, adding another failed stint of his NBA career.

29 teams have solid offers to propose to the Nets to unlock negotiations for Kyrie, but there’s one that might be beating the competition as we speak. After a tumultuous first season in Los Angeles, Russell Westbrook could be dealt to a different team in the association.

Whether that happens or not, the Los Angeles Lakers could make a move for Kyrie Irving this offseason. The Purple and Gold are looking to improve their roster this offseason and a reunion between LeBron James and Irving has been discussed before.

However, Kyrie must make some sacrifices to play with LeBron again, as Adrian Wojnarowski recently explained. The senior insider claims that Irving should take a $30 million pay cut to join the Lakers this summer, who are considered the biggest candidates to get Irving’s services right now.

Woj: "The Lakers are considered the most significant threat right now for Kyrie, but that would essentially entail him taking $30 million less than he can opt into in Brooklyn. There is a $6 Million taxpayer exemption he could sign with the Lakers.”

The offseason just started for the entire league and we’re days away from the 2022 free agency. Kyrie can be one of the biggest names to test the waters of the free market and plenty of teams will try to get his signing. As things stand right now, the Lakers are frontrunners to acquire his services, but this is just the beginning of what is the biggest saga of the short offseason.
