While Kyrie Irving’s tenure with the Mavericks has not been the prettiest, a pair of clutch wins has them back above the play-in line at 36-35 on the season.

According to Irving himself, the mini turnaround can be attributed, in part, to a candid conversation between the players as the team was struggling early on.

“We had some real conversations, grownup conversations, mature conversations that I can honestly say that in my 12 years or 11 years on every team we haven’t had those direct conversations sometimes,” Irving said, via Mavs.com. “It’s no comparisons. It’s just we had a real group conversation that we needed to get some things out, and now we’re just living with the wins and losses because we’re together. Those conversations behind the scenes really matter for our organization, so it’s been happening.”

It sounds like the Mavericks are really holding each other accountable, which is good for a team trying to make a run in the playoffs.

But even with Dallas showing flashes of what they could be, it’s hard to ignore the uncertainty in their future.

Will Kyrie Irving Stay With The Mavericks?

It’s no secret that this season is Irving’s final year under contract, which means he is set to become an unrestricted free agent next season. We already know that Irving wants the max, and the Mavs may be willing to offer it.

The good news for them is, the Lakers may be out of the race for good.

“From what I’ve been told, they’re not going to be pursuing Kyrie Irving this offseason…,” Buha says. “To my knowledge and to what I’ve been told, the Kyrie ship, I think, has sailed. You never want to say never. That could easily change, but as of right now, their plan is to run this (team) back.”

So, Kyrie is likely to remain a Maverick for the next few years to come, but it’s impossible to predict the future when it comes to Kyrie.

For now, all Mavs fans can hope for is that they can make a meaningful run this season behind Luka, Kyrie, and the widely-respected Jason Kidd.

Finally, for the first time since Kyrie’s arrival, it seems the Mavericks have finally found their groove and the sky is truly the limit.
