Kyrie Irving doesn’t have a good history with the Celtics, but it was all love on Tuesday night as he sent a Tweet of congratulations to his former teammates.

Here’s what he said in reflection of the series:

We didn’t get the result we wanted, but I wanted to congratulate my brothers in that Celtics locker room. They earned the series Win and I wish them well as they advance. Nothing but love competing against them.

Time to reflect, grow, and move forward. Thank you God for using me as a vessel. I am humbled and honored To Serve YOU.

Irving and the Nets are coming off a highly disappointing season. Despite having a powerful and star-studded roster, they struggled all year to stay consistent and win games. They finished 7th in the East and went on to get swept by Boston in the very first round.

It’s the same Boston team that Kyrie was once a part of, and the same team he once said didn’t have what it takes to win a title.

“The young guys don’t know what it takes to be a championship level team,” said Irving in 2019. “What it takes every day. And if they think it is hard now, what do they think it will be like when we’re trying to get to the Finals? There were no expectations last year. Everyone played free and easy. Everyone surpassed whatever they expected for themselves. This year? We all have high expectations. The players, the coaches, everyone. And that’s good, but we aren’t doing it yet. We can get there. We’ve got to be better. I’ve got to be better. We need to win these games on the road. That’s on me as a leader. I need to be a better leader and to help get us there.”

Irving’s tenure with the Celtics didn’t last long. After exchanging a few blows with his teammates, he left in free agency and has taken several shots at the franchise since.

Today, it’s the Celtics who have earned the last laugh.

Maybe next year, they’ll be tweeting congratulations to him as he moves on to play the next round.
