Kyrie Irving Wants To Play 1 On 1 vs. Kemba Walker: “I Want That Matchup. I Want K-Walk. I Know Everybody Wants To See It.”

Kyrie Irving must be one of the most hated players in Boston Celtics’ history. He left the Cleveland Cavaliers to join them for a couple of years, promised to resign, publically criticized their players, and then left as a free agent after all they gave to get him in the first place.

Luckily for them, they landed Kemba Walker in free agency and truth to be told, he’s been more than a suitable replacement. He’s far more coachable and has posted similar numbers throughout his entire career.

That’s why Irving wants to play Kemba one-on-one the next time they face-off, as he knows it’ll be a treat for the fans that are craving for them to try and prove who’s the alpha dog:

“I want that matchup. I want K-Walk. I know everybody wants to see it. That’s my matchup, I want K-Walk. That’s my big bro. You know we got mutual respect, but I know everybody wants to see it out of New York, New Jersey,” Irving said via Instagram.

It’s all in good spirits, though, as they both grew up in the New York area so they faced off dozens of times growing up, so it’s definitely going to be a matchup worth watching:

“Every time we play against each other, it’s always a game. He gave us 40, I gave him 40, back-and-forth. That’s just part of where we grew up,” Irving concluded.

Walker has been a breath of fresh air for Brad Stevens’ offense, averaging 21.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 3.3 three-pointers per game on 42/37/86 shooting.

Irving, on the other hand, spent most of the season on the shelf with a shoulder injury and was right in the middle of a couple of controversial stories once again, so Celtics’ fans must be really pleased considering how it all worked out for them in the end.
