After starting the season 2-10, it’s a miracle that the Lakers find themselves in a position to go up 2-0 in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. Before this inspiring playoff push, and their miraculous turnaround, the Lakers were fighting to stay out in the play-in and keep their season alive.

But now, with the team playing their best basketball in years, there is a sense that this Lakers group is on the verge of something special. Speaking on Sirius XM Radio ahead of Game 2, head coach Darvin Ham looked back on the season and reflected on the changes that helped flip the script.

“Once the deadline came Rob put us in different scenarios we locked in on one of them and were able to get some pieces that were a natural fit for our two big dogs LeBron and AD,” said Ham. “And here we are, one game in, up 1-0 in the second round of the playoffs. No one thought we’d even have a sniff at the postseason and we are fully established and enthralled in what we’re doing. So, it’s been great man. I came in it with my eyes wide open knowing that if we stuck to it and came in every day trying to get better at something that the sky was the limit. I always tell the team: we will only go as far as our work habits take us.”

Many fans and experts who counted the Lakers out are now eating their words, but anybody who knows the potential of LeBron James and Anthony Davis wasn’t surprised by the Lakers’ comeback.

The question now is, can they complete their hard work and bring home a title, or will they fall short of the mark once again after coming so far?

Lakers Are Ready For Brutal Playoff Fight

The path only gets harder from here, and the margin for error will continue to diminish as the playoffs move closer to a conclusion. Fortunately, the Lakers are used to playing high-stakes games after months of trying to avoid the play-in.

“Since we made acquisitions, we’ve been able to be very resilient in games,” said LeBron. “We have been playing playoff basketball for about 2.5 months now… just punch our clock in and be ready to play right now in the postseason.”

Only time will tell how this story ends for the Purple and Gold, but there’s no denying that they belong here and that they’ve got a shot against anyone when fully healthy.
