The Los Angeles Lakers have been an inconsistent and disappointing team all season. While they were expected to be a championship-caliber team going into the season, they have fallen far below that. They are currently a play-in tier team, 9th in the Western Conference with a 28-37 record.

Some have previously expressed the notion that the Los Angeles Lakers could still have playoff success, even amidst their struggles this late in the season. For example, Metta Sandiford-Artest backed them to “pull off the impossible”.

“I still think Lakers will pull off the impossible.”

Nick Wright is well-known as a huge LeBron James fan. He has even claimed LeBron James is the greatest athlete ever in the past. However, even he doesn’t believe in the 2021-22 Los Angeles Lakers anymore, claiming that “they’re done”.

"I'm here to tell you the Lakers don't have a puncher's chance. They're done. It's over. The 2021-22 Los Angeles Lakers officially died a miserable, underwhelming death against the Rockets. It's finished. Season over."

I’m here to tell you the Lakers don’t have a puncher’s chance. They’re done. They’re dead. It’s over. The 2021-22 Los Angeles Lakers officially died a miserable, underwhelming death last night (against the Rockets). It’s finished… With or without Anthony Davis, this team with this coach and this roster has no chance… No puncher’s chance. Season over. I have to officially pick a new team to come out of the West.

The Los Angeles Lakers definitely have struggled to gain any sort of momentum and put together a string of wins this season. While part of their struggles can be attributed to injuries to key players, there are also on-court factors such as lack of depth and a low-tier defense that prevent them from winning a lot of games despite the stars on the roster.

Hopefully, the Los Angeles Lakers are able to figure things out and start rolling in the near future. However, time is quickly running out for them to become a more competitive team.
