The Los Angeles Lakers captain is currently ranked third on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, two places above Jordan. By the end of this season, he could move past Karl Malone, who holds the second spot on the list.
Malone scored 36,928 points through the course of his 19-year NBA career, and LeBron is not far behind. King James, who is also in his 19th year, has 35,516 points so far and needs 1,412 points to tie Malone’s tally.
To achieve that, LBJ will need to play at least 60 more games and average 23.5 points. Out of the 14 games, the Lakers have played this season, he has only featured in six, and there is no return date for his abdominal strain.
The last time LeBron averaged over 1,400 points was in the 2019-20 season, where he ended with 1,698. Age is catching up to The King, and he is undoubtedly getting a bit slower. He could reach Malone’s record this season, but it will be a really close shave.
It is safe to say that before the end of LeBron’s career he could pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the league’s best scorer. Longevity is LeBron’s biggest selling point, and he could still play for two or three more years.
LBJ has indicated an interest to play with his son Bronny in the NBA. While that will make them the first father-son duo to play in the NBA at the same time, it also means LeBron will still play in the NBA for at least another two seasons.
