Ja Morant Says He Is A Very Humble Guy But Very Confident As Well: “I Said, What I Said. I’m Top 5.”

Ja Morant is on a mission this year. Although his Memphis Grizzlies succumbed to the 1-12 New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night, the 2020 Rookie of the Year is having a terrific 2021/22 NBA season by trying to lead his team to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

While he keeps getting better, some fans want to see more from Ja. His dunks are spectacular, but many folks believe he will be a real problem when he develops a jump shot.

Still, the Memphis Grizzlies star is pretty confident in himself, saying he’s one of the top-5 point guards in the league. Back in May, Ja named himself one of the best five PGs in the association, boasting big confidence.

Then, in September, he doubled down on those comments, even naming the four players he believes belong to the top with him.

Mike Scotto: If you’re Top 5, who else is there with you?

Morant: Steph (Curry). I’m a big Chris Paul fan. I’d say Dame (Lillard) and (Russell) Westbrook. It’s tough. The point guard position is so loaded. Some guys have to get left out.

He hasn’t changed his mind this season, going further and saying he’s very humble, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t trust his capacities.

“I’m a very humble guy but I’m confident as well. I said what I said. I’m top-5. Whoever don’t agree, that’s your opinion,” Morant told reporters recently.

It’s good to see the young man betting on himself like this. He’s defied and beaten the odds even before college, and won’t stop now that he made it to the NBA. Even his teammate Dillon Brooks called him one of the best point guards in the league, comparing Ja to none other than Stephen Curry.

The future is bright for Morant. If he keeps developing his game, this player will be a real problem for the rest of the league. He believes in himself and sometimes that’s the only thing you need to succeed. This season, he averages 26.2 PPG, 7.4 APG, 6.2 RPG, while shooting 48.7% from the field and 35.5% from beyond the arc in 13 games.
