The Los Angeles Lakers have made it to the playoffs and now have a chance at competing for the championship, which is all they could have asked for.

After their win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the play-in game, LeBron James was asked about what a championship run would mean to him.

“That’s the only reason I play still, is to try to put myself in a position to make championships runs,” LeBron said. “And give teammates that have never been part of a championship run something they haven’t experienced before. It hasn’t changed for me since about 2006-07, that’s just been my mindset every year on how can I make a championship run and I’ve been successful in four of those. I’ve been able to not only make a championship run but also executive it and actually make it happen.”

At this stage of his career, there are only two things that are keeping him going, championships and the chance to play with his son Bronny James. LeBron had made it clear earlier this season that he didn’t want to end his career playing meaningless basketball for a team that is not a title contender. The Lakers have certainly turned things around since those dark days, and James now has reason to believe they can make some noise in the postseason.

Nick Wright Predicts The Lakers Will Win The Title

History is not on the side of the Lakers, as no seventh-seed has ever won an NBA title. The 1994-95 Houston Rockets, led by Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, remain the lowest-seeded team to win it all, after finishing sixth that season. Still, the Lakers aren’t your traditional seventh-seed, as they have the second-best record since the All-Star break at 16-7.

Their good play since the break is just one of the reasons why Nick Wright believes they will win it all this season. He thinks no team would want to face the Lakers in the playoffs and that with this title, Anthony Davis will reclaim the respect that many have taken from him. The first roadblock to them winning a title is the Memphis Grizzlies, and they, for one, don’t mind facing the Lakers. It is set up to be a thrilling series and if the Lakers do advance, then the talk of them winning it all will just grow louder.
