During his honored career, the King suffered plenty of losses, especially in the NBA Finals, which really hurt him to this day. Joe Vardon of The Athletic reports that the play was the reason why LeBron James opted to sit out against the Brooklyn Nets in the Lakers’ next game, as he tried to go back to his best version after the terrible call from referees.
He sat the following game in New York against the Brooklyn Nets, a place he loves to put on a show. He did so to decompress and collect himself.
“That’s why he is sitting tonight,” said one of James’ friends, who was given anonymity so that he could feel comfortable summarizing their private conversations.
Moreover, one of James’ friends would admit that this was the second time LeBron felt he was cheated in the NBA, following that infamous play by JR Smith in 2018 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
“There were only two times he felt cheated after a game, Saturday (against Boston) and Game 1,” another of his close friends said.
In case you don’t know what happened, during that game, the Cleveland Cavaliers had the chance to take the win in the last seconds of regulation after JR Smith grabbed a rebound from a missed free throw. Instead of going for the basket, he took a different direction, killing the Cavs’ chances to win the game.

That game was very painful for Cleveland, who would end up losing the match and the series after a demolishing 4-0 outcome.
