- Lakers fan/LeBron associate gets real on Austin Reaves’ work ethic
- Cuffs sticks it to the haters in enlightened tweet
- Cuffs calls on the critics to stop the “imaginary beef”
As a longtime friend of LeBron James, Cuffs The Legend has become somewhat of a legend in the NBA community. While he doesn’t speak for James or his agent, Rich Paul, Cuffs often goes out of his way to speak on various issues involving the Purple and Gold.
On Twitter this weekend, his latest mission was to defend Lakers guard Austin Reaves from the haters amid his impressive performance with Team USA.
“The Austin Reaves ‘hate’ is so weird to me because all the kid has done so far is keep his head down and outwork everybody to gain everything he has,” wrote Cuffs. “Nothing was given to him. Yes, the Lakers spotlight/microscope is real but the Lakers have had several undrafted guys who didn’t pan out and flourish like this! It’s time to stop the ‘imaginary Beef’ and enjoy more dope success stories!”
In the NBA, there is a stigma that Lakers players are often overrated because of the team they play for but the hype seems to be legit with Reaves, who is showing before our very eyes what he’s capable of.
Last season, with the Lakers, he averaged 13 points, 3.4 assists, and 3 rebounds per game on 52.9% shooting. Those numbers went up in the postseason when Reaves stepped up as the team’s third-best player en route to the Conference Finals.
No doubt, Reaves has enjoyed an advantageous situation since entering the league but there is no doubt he’s earned his place with the Lakers, and on Team USA where he has impressed everyone.
“A player that I had several people say has really impressed them and been, like, much better than they were expecting has been Austin Reaves,” said ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Austin Reaves Is The Future In Los Angeles
With Austin looking more legit with each passing week, fans are excited to see how he’ll play next season, with another summer of growth and development under his belt.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen him act as a scorer and ball-handler for the Lakers, but he may have to become more of a playmaker next campaign.
In the absence of Russell Westbrook, the Purple, and Gold have been looking for another table-setter, and Reaves could fill that role for them if he delivers on expectations next season.
He, alongside Anthony Davis, will be the key to success for LA in the future and everyone will be watching to see what comes next.
