LeBron James has been in the conversation of the best player in the NBA ever since he was drafted in 2003. He has consistently delivered to a level nobody before he has.
James may have been a perennial MVP candidate for almost his entire career, but age has started to slow him down. LBJ didn’t receive a single MVP vote this season, the first time this has happened in his 20-year career. Joel Embiid was awarded the overall trophy.

Even last season, when the Lakers were awful, LeBron James was given an MVP vote for his sensational individual performances and almost winning the scoring title in Year 19. This season, LBJ has been in and out of the lineup with injury while also not having the individual impact we know he has had in years prior.
He averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists this season, not shabby at all but below the standard that we have seen LeBron compete at his entire career.
Regular Season Accomplishments Are Not Motivating LeBron Anymore
LeBron James could’ve stat padded at the end of last year to secure the scoring title but shut his season down before he played enough games to qualify due to the Lakers being eliminated from the playoffs. The only thing James plays for now is to succeed in the playoffs, which his Lakers are doing this season.
James had a slow start to the playoffs against the Grizzlies in terms of his production but had key moments all throughout the series to help them advance to the second round. They are facing the Warriors in a highly-anticipated Game 1 tonight, as LeBron and Stephen Curry meet up in the postseason once again.
Curry finished 9th in MVP voting, so it seems he will join LeBron to have the mentality of dominating when it’s playoff time instead of running after regular season accomplishments.
