Joel Embiid has finally won the NBA MVP award in 2023. After two seasons of finishing as the runner-up, Embiid was awarded the MVP today for his sensational 2022-23 campaign.

Embiid says he spoke this award into existence while sharing a picture of a fake MVP ladder where he won MVP over LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Chris Bosh, and more.

The power of manifestation is real, but Embiid did have to publicly campaign for this award. Nikola Jokic was expected to be three-peating earlier in the season, but Embiid put on some wonderful individual performances as Jokic slowed down late in the season because his team had clinched the one seed.

Embiid averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists and led the league in scoring for the second consecutive season. It was a deserved win at the end of probably the most intense MVP race in recent memory.

Eye On The Prize?

Joel Embiid wanted to win MVP for years and finally achieved it almost a decade after being drafted into the league. Jokic and the Nuggets didn’t seem to care about winning another MVP and wanted to focus on the playoffs, which should be Embiid’s new focus. His current injury had him miss Game 1 of the second round. His status is unclear for Game 2 as well, though the 76ers won Game 1 even with Embiid out.

The same energy and passion Embiid chased the MVP with at the end of the regular season needs to apply when he returns from injury. Everybody remembers who wins the title and Finals MVP, so Joel still has a lot left to achieve this season provided he can return to the court healthy.
