LeBron James‘ win against France in the Olympic gold medal game today extends his massive winning streak in winner-take-all games to 21 consecutive. James hasn’t lost a winner-take-all game in his career since 2008, when he and the Cleveland Cavaliers lost a Game 7 to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference second round.

Since then, James has won winner-take-all games of all kinds, whether they be Game 7s like 2013, 2016, and 2018 where he is 6-0, the play-in tournament where he is 3-0, the recent in-season tournament where he is 3-0 and even the Olympics in 2008, 2012, and now, in 2024. For all the talk of James not being clutch, his record in win-or-go-home games says otherwise.

James had a great game against France, putting up a double-double with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals. It was a sensational showing from James, who was able to not only secure the gold medal for Team USA but also the Olympic MPV trophy, adding to his already lengthy list of accolades.

This is LeBron James’ third gold medal at the Olympics. James now ties Carmelo Anthony for the second-most successful men’s Team USA player in Olympics history, with three gold medals and one bronze medal. James’ legacy keeps improving each year, as he continues to rack up accolades and achievements.

James and Team USA will be proud of their win, and the way they played at this tournament. They faced perhaps what is the most competitive pool of Olympic competition in basketball history, and still came out on top. While it was not always easy, Team USA was able to close out games and get the job done when the going got tough.

LeBron James: An MVP Wherever He Goes

LeBron James winning the Olympic MVP means that he is the only player in basketball history to win the NBA MVP, Finals MVP, All-Star Game MVP, In-Season Tournament MVP, and Olympic MVP. The only player who currently has the chance to match him in this department is Kevin Durant, who would need to win an In-Season tournament MVP trophy.

James’ legacy as one of the best to ever do it in the sport was secured years ago. But he continues to add to it, even at this late stage in his career. While most players at his level walk away from the game at this age, James is currently still playing at a high level and expects to play into the early years of his 40s.

James’ experience with Team USA was one to remember, not just for him, but for fans everywhere. Younger fans, who never got to witness the Dream Team in 1992 with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson play together, will look at this year’s Team USA with LeBron, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry with the same reverence.

This was the first time we got to see the legendary trio play together on Team USA. And they delivered one of the all-time great runs by a team at the Olympics with their individual and collective showings. This 2024 Olympics run by Team USA will go down in history.
