The Los Angeles Lakers seemed dead and buried at various points this season, but they are now well and truly in the mix for an automatic spot in the playoffs.

They showed a lot of heart after a horrific third quarter to storm back in the fourth and came away with a 122-112 win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. LeBron James was thrilled after this result and took to Twitter to express his excitement.

Safe to say that is a sentiment that is being echoed by Lakers fans as well. This new-look Lakers roster after the trade deadline has played very well together and the new arrivals have seemingly turned the season around for them.

D’Angelo Russell was immense here with 28 points and 9 assists while Jarred Vanderbilt had 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Dennis Schroder, meanwhile, had 23 points off the bench while Austin Reaves had 18. It is what enabled the Lakers to get this win despite Anthony Davis finishing with just 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists, although he did have 4 blocks.

The Raptors made it a point to slow down Davis with double teams and they dared the rest of the Lakers to beat them and that is what they did. This was the third straight win for the Lakers and they have gone 8-3 in their last 11 games to improve to 33-34. They have been the best defensive team since acquiring Vanderbilt and are very much trending upward.

LeBron James Is Exploring Every Possible Option To Get Back On The Court

This game seemed to be done after a third-quarter onslaught from Toronto as they went on a 25-5 run after half-time, but the Lakers dominated the fourth quarter 37-22 to come away with the win. It is fair to say that the team prior to the trade deadline probably wouldn’t have managed to put together this comeback, especially if LeBron was out and Davis was being shut down with double teams.

There is just a different feeling around this group, so it should come as no surprise that LeBron is looking at every possible treatment method in order to come back in the regular season. Adding him to this mix would make the Lakers a formidable unit and it would appear a season that seemed lost for so long, could end up being quite special.
