LeBron James On ‘Carrying Personal Baggage’: “Don’t Take It Personal, Just Take It With You.”

Sports Illustrated

Throughout his entire career, LeBron James has had to carry a lot of weight on his shoulders.

He was deemed “The Chosen One,” pointed out for the early comparisons to Michael Jordan, and was asked to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to contention despite being just a kid.

In fact, not so long ago, he pretty much said that he was used to those kinds of things, stating that his shoulders were that big for a reason:

“God gave me wide shoulders for a reason,” said The King when several of his Lakers teammates were out with injury.

That’s why, now that he’s entering his 18th season in the NBA, he can afford to share a piece of advice to those younger ballers trying to make a living in the Association.

James did precisely that on his most recent post on Instagram stories, telling them how to deal with that “personal” baggage.

LeBron sure knows one thing or two about carrying baggage. I mean, we’re talking about a guy who led the Cavaliers to 66 wins in 2009 with Mo Williams as his second-best player.

He also led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals despite injuries from Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love and orchestrated the most epic comeback in Finals history the very next year. So yeah, he knows what he’s talking about.

But even after all these years, there are some who still doubt LeBron’s greatness and impact on the league.

That’s why he’s far from satisfied and far from done yet. He’ll have to carry that personal baggage throughout the whole season as he looks to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to their 18th NBA championship.

Not many people have been able to be around the league for as long as James has. So, young hoopers, soak in as many of his tips as you can.
